The Alternative Teacher Certification Program (ATCP) at Houston City College (HCC) is a state-approved program that prepares individuals for Texas certification in elementary and secondary education. The Basic Firefighter program area prepares students to meet the Texas Commission on Fire Protection (TCFP) minimum standards for employment as a firefighter in the State of Texas. Upon successful completion, students are eligible to pursue certification and entry-level positions in the fire service, with coursework that may also apply toward an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Fire Science/Firefighting.

The Basic Peace Officer Licensing program area prepares students for a career as a Texas Peace Officer by providing the required training and knowledge needed for entry into law enforcement.
