    Houston City College announces $17 million investment from Bloomberg Philanthropies to expand skilled trades, apprenticeships regionally

    Houston City College (HCC) announced the launch of Gulf Coast TradeUp Careers, a regional workforce transformation initiative supported by a $17 million investment from Bloomberg Philanthropies. The initiative is part of a new $90 million national effort from Bloomberg Philanthropies to change how high school students prepare for and enter Registered Apprenticeships and high-wage, family-sustaining careers in the skilled trades.

    Houston City College launches Workforce Training partnership with Tesla

    HCC has formed a new partnership with Tesla, Inc. to strengthen Houston’s workforce and expand career pathways in advanced manufacturing. The partners celebrated the graduation of the first cohort of students to complete the program at the Stafford campus and signed a Memorandum of Understanding to cement the collaboration.

    Learning the language of inclusion: HCC American Sign Language students champion Deaf awareness

    On a Sunday afternoon, when the restaurant is typically closed, the Chick-fil-A in Deer Park opened its doors to students from the HCC Interpreting Training/American Sign Language (ASL) program. Ten student members of the ASL Honor Society were there to teach the language of inclusion—showing hearing employees how to communicate with their four Deaf co-workers. For the HCC students, it was community service, professional training and something far more personal all at once.
