A Health Information Technician—often referred to as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)—manages and analyzes patient health records in healthcare settings. These professionals organize, code, evaluate, and maintain medical data while working closely with administrative and financial departments to support accurate billing, compliance, and quality patient care.

The Health, Safety, and Environment program area provides students with knowledge of safety regulations and practices used to protect workers and the public from safety, health, and environmental hazards in process industries. Students learn about government-enforced regulations and the proper handling of equipment and substances used in industries such as oil and gas, power generation, water and wastewater, food and beverage, pharmaceutical, and pulp and paper.

The Healthcare Management program prepares students for administrative and leadership roles in healthcare organizations. Students gain foundational knowledge in healthcare operations, management, finance, ethics, and health information systems. The program emphasizes practical skills, critical thinking, and effective communication needed to support quality care and efficient healthcare delivery. Graduates are prepared for entry-level management positions or continued education in healthcare administration.

The Heating, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration program at Houston City College combines foundational training with emerging technologies in climate control systems. The Heavy Vehicle, Diesel, and Industrial Technology program at Houston City College prepares students for entry-level careers in Texas’s growing heavy equipment and diesel industries. Students receive hands-on training in diesel engine repair, diagnostics, and preventive maintenance for commercial trucks, buses, industrial machinery, and other heavy-duty vehicles. In addition, we offers specialized training in truck driving and forklift operation, providing students with a well-rounded foundation for careers in the transportation and industrial sectors.

Histologic Technicians (HT) play a vital role in patient diagnosis, treatment, and care. Working in histology labs—where cancer diagnoses are often made, they prepare and analyze tissue samples that help physicians identify diseases.
