The mission of the Petroleum Engineering Technology program at Houston City College is to deliver high-quality education and hands-on training that prepare students for technical roles in the petroleum industry. The Pharmacy Technician Certificate Program at Houston City College prepares students for employment in a wide range of pharmacy settings, including community pharmacies, hospitals, and home health environments. Training focuses on the essential skills needed to support pharmacists in medication preparation, inventory management, and patient service.

The Physics courses at Houston City College support students preparing for science and engineering majors, pursuing physics-related degrees, or simply exploring an interest in how the physical world works. The curriculum builds strong foundations in fundamental principles, problem-solving, and scientific reasoning.

The Process Technology program at Houston City College provides high-quality education and hands-on training that prepares a diverse student body for career advancement in the process industries. The curriculum equips students with the technical knowledge, safety awareness, and operational skills needed to work effectively in refining, petrochemical, power generation, and manufacturing environments.

Psychology is the scientific study of behavior and mental processes, exploring how people think, feel, and act. Students examine topics such as learning, memory, perception, development, motivation, personality, stress, mental health, and social behavior. Through this broad curriculum, students gain insight into real-world issues including relationships, prejudice, trauma, workplace behavior, and overall well-being.

The Public and Behavioral Health prepares students to support individuals, families, and communities through compassionate, skill-based service. Students gain practical training in communication, ethics, and case management, leading to careers in social services, community agencies, and related fields or continued education. This program is approved by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission and has been a member of the South Southwest Addiction Technology Transfer Center consortium (SSWATTC) funded by Substance Abuse Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) since 1993.

The Real Estate program at Houston City College provides students with the knowledge and specialized skills needed for a wide range of careers in the real estate industry. Students can prepare for roles in residential sales, commercial real estate, mortgage lending, inspection, and property management.

Students in the Sterile Processing program combine classroom learning with hands-on training in Coleman College’s state of the art labs. Through clinical rotations at partnering healthcare institutions, students also gain real-world practical experience that builds confidence and career-ready skills. Graduates are well prepared to pursue certification and step directly into rewarding roles as sterile processing technicians in today’s healthcare workforce.

The Associate of Arts in Teaching (AAT) is a state-approved transfer degree that provides the first two years of coursework required for students pursuing Texas teacher certification. This program prepares future educators with foundational knowledge in teaching, learning, and child development and is designed for seamless transfer into a four-year bachelor’s degree leading to initial teacher certification.

Welding is the most common way of permanently joining metal parts. In this process, heat is applied to metal pieces, melting and fusing them to form a permanent bond. Because of its strength, welding is used in shipbuilding, automobile manufacturing and repair, aerospace applications, and thousands of other manufacturing activities. Welding is also essential in construction, where it is used to join beams, build bridges, and connect pipes in pipelines, power plants, and refineries.

The World Language Program at Houston City College offers instruction in Arabic, Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish. Courses are designed to help students build practical communication skills, cultural understanding, and confidence in using the target language for real-world interactions, academic study, and global engagement.
