Houston City College (HCC) has received a $103,000 investment from NRG Energy, Inc., to expand apprenticeship opportunities that prepare students for high-demand careers in the growing Texas energy sector. The investment will expand HCC's apprenticeship pathways in instrumentation and controls, providing students with the technical skills and hands-on experience needed for careers in the energy industry.

HCC has been selected as one of only 10 community colleges nationwide to receive a $1 million Lowe's Foundation Gable Grant, funding an initiative expected to prepare 400 new students for high-demand skilled trades careers in the Greater Houston region.

HCC Career & Transfer Services, in partnership with Alumni Affairs, hosted a successful Foxconn Hiring Event on June 11, 2026, at the Stafford Campus, connecting students and alumni with career opportunities at one of the world’s leading global manufacturers. 

HCC and Space Center Houston have joined forces to propel STEM education and strengthen workforce pathways for students across the Houston region. Leaders from both organizations formalized a new mission on Tuesday, June 9, by signing a Memorandum of Understanding at the HCC West Houston Institute. The partnership is designed to connect classroom learning with real-world industry experience and emerging careers in aerospace and related industries.
