    Houston City College fashion design student packs bags, passport for Paris internship

    Thomas Eggleston Wooldridge never imagined someone like him, who grew up in the “middle-of-nowhere-country” in Lynchburg, Virginia, would one day leave the United States. He recalled that in high school, only one or two classmates expressed a desire to study abroad, something that felt impossible for him due to his family’s financial situation. Now living in Houston and attending HCC, the 32-year-old fashion design student is preparing for the biggest trip of his life to Paris, France.

    HCC Fashion Design student makes program history with 3D-fabricated garment

    When Marisabel Morales sent her model down the runway at the 10th annual Fashion Fusion competition at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, she made history. Morales, a student in HCC's award-winning Fashion Design program, became the first student to construct a fully 3D-printed gown––and the only designer at “Fashion Fusion X” to present a garment created entirely through 3D printing. The show on Jan. 30 paid tribute to the legendary artist Frida Kahlo.

    Fashion Fusion celebrates 10 years with a stunning, iconic tribute to Frida Kahlo

    As a woman of Mexican descent, Tanya Roche always felt drawn to the esteemed artist Frida Kahlo, known for her self-portraits of pain, passion and vibrant colors. Roche, a 47-year-old HCC Fashion Design student, originally from Queens, New York, used to buy clothing and dress like the famous artist in different phases of her life.

    Clariza Reyes' return to college lands her as 2025 Gucci Changemaker

    It had been eight years since Clariza Reyes fully finished a semester in college, and after one semester at HCC, the 28-year-old Interior Design student is now a Gucci Changemaker. While taking part in HCC’s Interior Design program over the Spring 2025 semester, Reyes applied for the renowned fashion designer company’s Gucci Changemakers Scholarship and was selected as one of just 10 scholarship recipients – the only Gucci Changemaker from a community college.
