The Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) program area provides fast-track training to prepare students for entry-level positions in the healthcare industry. Students gain the skills, knowledge, and abilities needed to provide basic care in long-term care facilities, including resident rights, communication, safety, observation, reporting, and assisting with basic comfort and safety needs. In order to meet the rising demand for trained personnel in the health care industry, HCC offers Certified Nurse Aide (CNA) courses for fast-track training that produces successful graduates sought after for entry-level positions in the field.

The Cosmetology program at Houston City College provides both theory and hands-on training to prepare students for careers as licensed cosmetologists. Graduates who complete the full curriculum are eligible to take the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) exam and, upon passing, qualify for state licensure and employment opportunities.

The Cybersecurity program area equips students with the skills and knowledge in network security, compliance, and threat detection needed to defend against evolving cyber threats. Students are introduced to core cybersecurity principles, including common threats, vulnerabilities, and protective measures used to secure systems and networks.

The Drafting and Design Engineering Technology program at Houston City College provides up-to-date technical training in both architectural and engineering design drafting. Students gain the skills needed to create accurate drawings, models, and plans used across the construction and manufacturing industries.

The IT Fundamentals program provides students with a strong foundation in essential information technology concepts and skills needed for today’s technology-driven workplace. Students learn the basics of computer hardware, software, networking technology, and network security through beginner-friendly instruction and hands-on learning. The program prepares students for entry-level IT opportunities and further study in the technology field.

The Intensive English program area helps college students and adult learners develop English language skills for work, academic studies in the United States, and Houston City College certificate programs. The program offers Intro, Level 1, and Level 2 instruction, preparing students to transition into ESOL Level 3 upon successful completion of Level 2.

Welding is the most common way of permanently joining metal parts. In this process, heat is applied to metal pieces, melting and fusing them to form a permanent bond. Because of its strength, welding is used in shipbuilding, automobile manufacturing and repair, aerospace applications, and thousands of other manufacturing activities. Welding is also essential in construction, where it is used to join beams, build bridges, and connect pipes in pipelines, power plants, and refineries.
