The greater Houston area is the second-fastest growing metro in the nation, and with that growth comes rising demand for certified teachers across the region. To help meet that demand, the Houston Endowment recently awarded HCC a $400,000, two-year grant to strengthen its Education Professions Center of Excellence to address critical teacher shortages and expand equitable access to high-quality educator preparation.

Each year the Houston chapter of the American Institute of Architects Committee on Architecture for Health hosts a professional seminar, exhibit and social allowing members of the architectural and healthcare communities to network and showcase trends and the future of design in health architecture.

In 2016, Tammy Foy was just one class shy of earning her Associate of Science in Business Management at HCC, but family obligations took priority. Her parents became ill, responsibilities at home mounted, and her education was placed on hold.

As a woman of Mexican descent, Tanya Roche always felt drawn to the esteemed artist Frida Kahlo, known for her self-portraits of pain, passion and vibrant colors. Roche, a 47-year-old HCC Fashion Design student, originally from Queens, New York, used to buy clothing and dress like the famous artist in different phases of her life.

When Brittaney Wilmore reflects on her path to a career in broadcast journalism, she credits HCC with giving her more than an education. It gave her confidence, community and a clear sense of direction.

HCC and the Houston Regional Veterans Chamber of Commerce have formalized a partnership with the signing of a Strategic Alliance Memorandum aimed at expanding education, training and business support for veteran entrepreneurs.

Elexis Robinson, a Global Online Honors College student at HCC, is pursuing a degree in artificial intelligence with a renewed sense of focus and intention. As a returning student and mother of a young son, she says discipline, structure and support help her excel academically.
