HCC’s Biomedical Electronics program prepares students for in-demand health care technology careers through hands-on training with the equipment used in hospitals and clinics. With strong industry partnerships, high job placement and growing demand, graduates like Jermaine Davis are turning technical skills into careers that help keep life-saving equipment—and patient care—running safely.

Houston City College (HCC) has received a $103,000 investment from NRG Energy, Inc., to expand apprenticeship opportunities that prepare students for high-demand careers in the growing Texas energy sector. The investment will expand HCC's apprenticeship pathways in instrumentation and controls, providing students with the technical skills and hands-on experience needed for careers in the energy industry.

Houston City College (HCC) employees will have an opportunity this fall to connect with local small business vendors during the college’s Small Business Enterprise (SBE) expo, an event designed to increase awareness and use of contracted suppliers.

After initially pursuing a career in criminal justice, Briānna Lowe realized that career path wasn’t her passion. The Michigan native dropped out of Grand Rapids Community College in 2020. Two years later, something in her spirit compelled her to move to Houston and fulfill her desire to become a chef.

As Houston’s population continues to grow, so does the need for highly trained emergency medical professionals. The HCC EMS program is helping meet that demand by preparing students for careers on the front lines of healthcare and public safety.

HCC is expanding opportunities for academically ambitious students through its Global Online Honors College, which launched in spring 2025 to bring the benefits of honors education to students who need the flexibility of a virtual learning environment. 

Three HCC Honors College students transformed a NASA-developed technology into a proposed automotive safety system designed to reduce nighttime headlight glare, earning a spot among the nation's top 20 teams at the 2026 NASA ORBIT Challenge.
